Grid 2
Race Driver: Grid significantly pushed the genre of arcade races forward: at the time of the exit of the game, the opportunity to cross the time back after departure from the highway seemed to be a radically new one, no other rating gave such unusual sensations.
Only one gameplay feature refresh the standard mechanics; It seemed that you were in the movie "Click. With a remote control in life ". Could not enter the turn? It doesn’t matter! By pressing the magic key, we are transferred a few seconds ago, we correct the error, and now the car has passed the obstacle without any problems. And if you also recall the plausible physics of damage, it turns out that the accidents were generally almost the main element of the game.
Codemasters always made colorful shows from their races, but for all his frivolity, Grid retained the balance between the noisy entertainment and a serious competition, where the rivals, if you call, make the dust swallow: the rewinding of time was by no means a panacea from losing. Hardcore players could not pass by and because of a large number of licensed cars, championships and tracks. In a word, it turned out to please everyone. But was it necessary to continue? Over the past five years, a lot in races has changed, Turn 10 Studios (authors Forza) have been perched on the pedestal, they intercepted Ubisoft Reflections from their Driver: San Francisco, but Codemasters did far from the perfect DIRT: ShowDown. The British could not decide on the genre belonging of spin-offs, which is why he was stuck somewhere in the middle between the dismissed arcade flight and the simulator, scaring off the audience of both directions at once.
Genius. Billionaire. Playboy. Philanthropist.
The new Grid is still the same automobile pornography as before, only shot in a more expensive studio and on a more expensive camera. Elegant scratches on the body of the car and rumpled wings bring indescribable aesthetic pleasure, forcing it to almost intentionally go to the ram and admire the view of the broken opponent. But the game Codemasters is not about that at all. Clashes not to be seriously punished (at least at a normal level of complexity), but they bring much more harm than the benefits.
[[Bullet]] It seems that this screenshot lacks the wine of diesel and Paul Walker.
As for the show, Codemasters not just remained faithful to their corporate identity – they erected it to the Absolute. The second Grid was served so masterfully that you are involuntarily surprised where there are so many talented designers from the developers team? Even Dirt: Showdown – the apotheosis of visual hooliganism – fades in comparison with this game. Codemasters are Stark Industries from flight developers. The studio, like that ingenious playboy, is not shy about boasting with money and practically forces you to admire yourself and your creation. There is so much gloss in the game that for a second you have no doubt where most of the budget went. This Grid 2 bribes: from the abundance of expensive cars in the garage, the head goes around, and they are detailed so that for other races it becomes somehow awkward.
Everyone and everyone
Physics of cars in the new Grid without five minutes is perfect. Cars obey your every movement and do not throw out unexpected fortresses. It’s very easy to get used to it, a couple of minutes is enough to “pacify” any brilliant car. Moreover, the sensation of driving is unique (the difference in weight and suspension is very noticeable), each car has a heap of small features and hidden nuances.
[Bullet]] Despite the quite affordable physical model, you can’t call a simple game.
But something Codemasters nevertheless adjusted to the last trends. In the turns, the cars go into drift all the time, just like in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). In the previous part, the ability to fit into the turn had to be hidden throughout the game. It was a special art that you mastered gradually, after many training. Here with this is somewhat easier, not always you even have to use a handbrake. The authors stepped towards newcomers, but did not offend veterans. Want a call? Turn on high complexity, and then you will have to measure all your actions with engineering accuracy.
But what hardcore fans will definitely not like is the absence of a look from the cabin. Why the British made such a strange decision and removed it, it is not clear. This would definitely not affect the balance (in the end, the camera can always be switched), so what's the matter?
Not a word about Jimkhan
The game has become an order of magnitude more city tracks, which cannot but rejoice. The asphalt labyrinths are unusually winding, it is far from always simple to stay on them: the turns are very cool, it brings the car all the time, and the potholes on the road canvas are now not just for beauty – every hit in the fossa is really felt.
[[Bullet]] Night routes cause involuntary associations with … Alan Wake.
In Grid 2, you will fly along the streets of Miami, Dubai, Paris and other cities selected to match the style of the game: elaborate, blinding, boastfully bright. To ride them is a pleasure. Codemasters, of course, did https://sister-site.org/bof-casino/ not recreate real routes, but at least took care of the transfer of the main attractions. For example, in Barcelona you will see the temple of the Holy Family, and in Paris you can admire the Eiffel Tower.
The British also decided on a small experiment. The Liveroutes function is rebuilding the tracks on the go, while not only some small elements change, but also the “drawing” of the level: in the next race, the turn can be in a completely different place.
[[Bullet]] Let the main emphasis in Grid 2 be made on city tracks, forest landscapes look no worse.
But the main feature of Grid – time management – has not changed at all. And this is far from a compliment. The amount of the divek is still strictly limited, and therefore they have to be used wisely-to protect, store for the last jerk. Moreover, the victory really gets blood and then: computer rivals are quick, dodgy and cunning, not to mention the online multiplayer, where the complexity increases significantly. But no matter how fun the circles on the highway have fun, I must admit-the tricks over time no longer cause a wow effect. The British did not even try to improve the rewinding system, but simply left everything as it is. This becomes a little disappointing, especially if you remember what fresh sensations the first Grid gave at one time. They expected at least the same from the sequel, but we have to state: the new game does not push the genre forward, but only works out the program that has already become standard for the series.
If we consider Grid 2 in isolation from everything that we have seen over the past five years in the race genre, then the game was certainly successful – it is more stylish, more spectacular and more licked than the original. Another thing is that if you turn on both parts to the stranger with the series player, he is unlikely to notice the difference. The British failed (more precisely, did not even try) to bring the franchise to a new level, and in everything else, they also made a number of controversial, if not strange, decisions. Apparently, they protect forces for the next generation of consoles.
